The Needham Varsity Girls Hockey Team’s season concluded in a way that no Rockets fan wanted to see, with a loss in the championship game at TD Garden to Woburn, 3-1. This ended what was an amazing season for the team, as they had finished the regular season with an undefeated record of 19-0-1. Their path to the championship game included victories over Reading Memorial, St. Mary’s, and Weymouth. There were many key players that fueled this spectacular stretch of wins, one of those players mentioned by Coach Furano was senior Elizabeth Hernberg, who was one of the leaders for the team. Some of their more impressive wins this year included a 9-1 victory over Newton North, a 10-1 win over Framingham, and a 6-3 win over Wellesley. Additionally, the team had a massive plus-76 goal differential for the season. The Rockets defense was stellar throughout the season, allowing three or more goals in only six games this year. Based on the team’s success this season, it’s safe to say that Needham High School students will be excited to see the Rockets return to the ice next year.
